I was delighted that the Grand Carnival event was an international culinary evening. If the lines aren't too long, you can do a lot in one day. If you're coming during peak season, consider fast lane tickets or stay at Corowinds and visit for a couple of days.
Carowinds Military
It may be a personal preference, but riding on adrenaline can quickly drain your energy. Try packing it and cheering yourself up, not just when you're on the go! What goes up with force must eventually come down.
Newport Aquarium
At the end of the large arm that connects to the center column, be prepared to swing in both directions on the car. I'm going to plant these girls! I am sad to see you. I can't decide if I like wild mice or not.
I sometimes find them scarier than roller coasters because you always feel like you're going over the edge until you turn at the last second. But we were only at the water park for a little over an hour and the lockers were very expensive in a short amount of time.
Craig walked down most of the slides with our kids and I relaxed reading in the wave pool! After 10 years of living in Raleigh, we finally made it to Corowinds Amusement Park in Charlotte. It is the most famous amusement park in the Carolinas and its 407 acres are filled with roller coasters from border to border.

Corowinds, a family-friendly amusement park in Charlotte, NC, offers free admission to honored or medically discharged veterans during Military Appreciation Days, which usually falls on the Saturday and Sunday that coincide with Veterans Day. Discount applies to all active duty, retired, National Guard and ROTC members.
Brevard Zoo
You must show a valid military ID. Family members can take advantage of Carowinds military discounts when they purchase online first. There's also a 2022 Military Gold Ticket, which gives you unlimited access to Corwinds and Carolina Harbor.
At the Newport Aquarium in Newport, they performed Military Appreciation Week in honor of Veterans Day. They offer free admission to active and retired military, disabled military, reserves or anyone who has served in the military.
You must show your military ID at the ticket window. Family members can receive a military discount of $3 on adult tickets and $2 on child tickets. But Tidal Wave Bay Pool is very small and full of people.
We recently visited Wet'n Wild in Greensboro a few days before heading to Carowinds and their wave pool was huge. At the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida, they offer free general admission to the zoo for current military and veterans.

Aquarium Of The Pacific
If a military member is stationed overseas, the zoo will host their spouse at no charge. Verification of service is required. Carawins provide free cups of water to all their guests. Ask at any soda stand and they'll give it to you.
I love how Corowinds has done this, especially on hot and humid days when you need to stay hydrated. Carolina Harbor Water Park is Corowinds Water Park and a large water park with large slides, wave pools and a children's pool area.
It was a nice break from the intense 2pm summer heat. Carowinds means Carolinians having fun together! At Corowinds alone, you'll find nearly 60 world-class attractions, the Carolinas' best water park, live entertainment, Camp Snoopy and home-style Carolina cuisine.
Special family-friendly events will keep you coming back all season long. I love that my girls ride together. You spin and up and down a circular track to high-energy tunes and lighting. It didn't go backwards like others I've driven before.
Naples Zoo At The Caribbean Gardens
If you want to save on your carry-on, don't take a water bottle. We did this because I drink a ridiculous amount of water and want it with me at all times. There are many water fountains around.

Carowind's Winterfest helps celebrate the holiday season and we went to the Grand Carnaval, which features food from around the world, interactive street performers and a spectacular night parade of colors. (When we were at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, we were a little disappointed.) A good friend of ours has annual passes and has been trying to get us to go for years.
Kalira joined her popular Halloween event Scarowinds this year and she gets goosebumps every time she tells us stories about the workers' scary costumes. At the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California, they are offering free admission to active duty military and veterans on Veterans Day on November 11, 2022.
Tickets should be booked online. Friends and family can also purchase tickets at their local MWR/ITT office or receive a discount of $3 off adult admission or $1.50 off child admission by showing military ID at the window.
National Parks
A local beer from Shady Beer & Snacks was the only time I sat down for a break throughout the day. They have a great selection of NC and SC beers. They had just run out of seltzer, so I got some cider instead.
The Carvings will honor America's brave soldiers on July 24 and 25, and then from June 27 through July 5-2. . Bring a valid military ID to show at the ticket window. They also offer free tickets to veterans with an honorable or medical discharge.

Mystic Aquarium
You should definitely take advantage of a free and/or discounted ticket to spend Veterans Day weekend with your family. Get ready for a fast-paced, high-intensity beach ride that simulates an air show. Begin a slow 125-foot vertical climb back before flying through a 360-degree loop and cobra rolls at 50 mph.
On Veterans Day, all visitors can visit national parks for free to remember veterans. There are more than 400 parks, some usually charge a fee, while others are free all the time. This does not include amenities or user fees such as camping or special tours.
I've never ridden the Copperhead Strike roller coaster twice. It was late afternoon and I was tired from rollerblading (and very dizzy), so Craig took this ride with Kalira and I took Savannah on the Dodgem machines.

We tried our best to ride on the higher beaches. Unfortunately some are now closed and we have had two thunderstorms cancel all rides. Unfortunately, they had to close all the rides at dusk, so we missed our last two beaches and the boardwalk at night.
Knott’s Berry Farm
At the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, CT, they offer general admission to military veterans and active duty military when they visit on select dates in November. You must have a valid military ID or other proof of service.
Also, family members receive $10 off general admission with military ID. Dependent discount is valid for up to four guests. However, we've found that the middle ride isn't enough for more cautious kids like 10-year-old Savannah.
He was too scared of fun rides and roller coasters and too old for the kiddie zone. At Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, you'll find Military Appreciation Days at this family-friendly amusement park. Active duty, veterans and retired military personnel and up to 5 guests can purchase tickets for $19.99 November 1-17, 2022 and November 28-December 15, 2022, Monday through Thursday.
You must show your military ID or DD214. Spouses and children cannot purchase tickets without their military personnel. You can also find military discounts at your local MWR/ITT. Legoland Florida
I don't know why it took so long to get to us. I have images in my head of a below average theme park with old wooden decks. I mean, after several visits to Universal Orlando Resort and Busch Gardens, our theme park barometer is pretty high.
You can enjoy all the fun rides the park has to offer, while constantly scaring the scary costumed Carowinds crew. All of them have been trained by your loud screams (even if you are trained to leave them alone who you don't want to scare).
Legoland Florida in Winter Haven, outside of Orlando, Florida, is offering free admission from November 1-20, 2021. They are not updated with a similar offer for 2022. They also offer military discounts of up to 25% at the Legoland Hotel.
Active military members can always get free admission to the Legoland Florida account and water park with no restrictions or blackout dates. They can also avail 25% discount on hotel rates.
